Initial Operator’s CRM training

The Initial Crew Resource Management (CRM) Training forms the foundation for safe and effective operations within the cockpit as well as the wider organization. During this course, you will explore the human, social, and operational factors that are essential for professional crew behaviour. CRM goes far beyond procedures alone: it is about behaviour, communication, and the ability to make the right decisions together as a team under varying circumstances.

A key starting point in this training is a (Just) Culture, in which openness, honesty, and learning take center stage. This enables us to discuss incidents, errors, and near-misses constructively—without blame or fear—so that we can jointly create a safer operation.

We also focus on Shared Situational Awareness: developing and maintaining a common understanding of the flight, the environment, and potential risks. This forms the basis for effective decision-making and teamwork.

Threat and Error Management (TEM) is covered extensively, teaching us to detect threats early, actively manage errors, and prevent or recover from undesired situations. The role of automation is also central: how do we understand the limitations and capabilities of modern cockpit systems, and how do we ensure that pilots remain ‘in the loop’?

Human factors play a major role in every flight operation. That is why we address Human Performance Limits such as fatigue, stress, cognitive workload, and susceptibility to error—and how to manage these effectively.

We further examine Leadership & Group Dynamics: how leadership functions within the cockpit, how teams operate, and how each pilot contributes to safe, respectful, and efficient collaboration.

Finally, Communication is the common thread running through all CRM elements. We train clear, assertive, and structured communication, both within the cockpit and with cabin crew, dispatch, and air traffic control.

This training forms the basis for your continued professional development as cockpit crew. Together, we build a culture where safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement are paramount.
